Stewart Attwood

Stewart was born in Chester, the UK in 1971. He became interested in photography during his high school years when his art teacher gave him a key to a photographic darkroom and said ‘it’s up to you to learn yourself’ and so he did.

Stewart went on to study A-level Art and Art History before specialising in Photography where he knew his passion lay.

His first job was at his local newspaper the Chester Chronicle in 1991, before moving to Scotland in 1994 where he joined the Edinburgh Evening News. In 1996, he moved to The Herald Newspaper and in 2000 started working on The Sunday Herald. In 2010 Stewart joined the Multi-Media team at the Herald and Times working across all titles.

In November 2015 he set up Stewart Attwood Photography and started his Freelance Photographer career covering News & Sport, PR, Corporate Events and commissioned work.

Throughout his career, Stewart has travelled extensively through Africa as well as in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bosnia, covering various human rights and civil war stories; an Award-winning Photographer whose aim is to create compelling images that are both aesthetically and emotionally moving.

Stewart was named the 2014 Scottish Sports Photographer of the Year for his coverage of the Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Ryder Cup.
